At the halls of Steneby Woodworking School in the deeps of the Swedish forest, a shared passion for woodworking and cycling brought two people together. Seeking challenges beyond the academic norm, they envisioned something unprecedented: a wooden bicycle frame that would blend traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation.
Award-Winning Innovation
The journey gained momentum with the Mötesplats Steneby award, providing essential resources, for the prototype, later unveiled at the Steneby Exhibit, symbolized innovation and the realization of a dream, setting the stage for a new era.
Viking-Inspired
Inspired by the robust yet nimble viking shields, we pioneered a technique to fortify wooden tubes with natural fibers, just how the viking did with their shields. The result? Bicycles combining the strength of steel and the lightness of aluminum, seamlessly blending history with modern innovation. At Askr, we're not just crafting bikes; we're weaving the past into the present, creating timeless pieces that narrate your story. Meet the Askr Team
Leevi
Sparked the original concept for Askr’s wooden bicycles and, together with Viktor, partnered to build the first prototypes. He's an expert in CNC and industrial manufacturing. After working in Japan's timber industry, he is now our Norwegian partner, focusing on research, developing new products that benefit from our unique production technology, and creating complementary sustainable goods. When he's not fine‑tuning manufacturing processes, you'll find him embracing the wild, mountain biking or skiing through forests or navigating the urban pulse, living the Askr adventure.
Viktor
A multifaceted maker and designer with a keen eye for aesthetics and a passion for how things work, he is the bedrock of our design. His expertise in furniture making and restoration brings historical craftsmanship into every product. He's instrumental in creating the bespoke machinery that helps crafts our bicycles, always pushing the boundaries of our design and production. He currently runs the small scale production shop in Sweden where all Askr bicycles are made. When he's not innovating in the workshop, you might spot him on hiking in the forest or maybe exploring gravel paths the adventure bike.
